Home Sweet Home...
...and Kitchen Sweet Kitchen! I'm thrilled to be home after five weeks stateside visiting friends and family, and absolutely overwhelmed with the amount of catching up I need to do in the blogosphere!
I missed so many things events and announcements, that I feel like I've been gone for a year! The wonderful Reid (ono kine grindz), celebrated his 1st blogaversary and changed back to his original banner, Julie (a finger in every pie) entered and WON her very first Paper Chef with a fantastic compote (and madeleines to boot!), Jen (Prepare to Meet Your Bakerina) skipped town for Scotland and left the lunatics in charge, Sam (Becks 'n Posh) started a Food Blog S'cool , Clement (a la cuisine!) was overall winner and Niki (Esurientes: The Comfort Zone ) won for best aesthetics in the latest DMBLGIT?, the good Dr. Biggles (Meathenge) started posting about VEGGIES! (Holy Cow is all I've got to say about that- nyuck, nyuck), Dawn (My Life With Garlic) is in the midst of an epic battle with Momma's pepper biscuits, and Anna Lisa (Oslo Foodie) has done a redesign and starting cooking lessons. Wow, you guys!
Geez, I left town (and, more seriously, the internet) for five weeks, and missed two EoMEoTE, IMBB#14, SHF#7, Paper Chef #6, WBW#9! Fortunately, IMBB15: Has My Blog Jelled?, hosted by the lovely Elise of Simply Recipes, is coming up on May 22nd, with all of the other events following, thank goodness.
In the meantime, I'll be throwing up some posts on my travels, including trips to the famed Zingerman's in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Tony Packo's in Toledo, Ohio, and The Candy Jar & Coffee House in Perrysburg, Ohio. I'll try to recreate some of the fab dishes I had whilst in North Carolina, including cheese grits, kale with poached eggs, and cat-head biscuits, all made by my friend Heather- one of the best instinctive, natural cooks I know. I also need to get my okole in gear on the cookbook for my niece, so I'll be posting more heirloom recipes very soon.
Phew...it's good to be back. I missed you guys and I can't wait to get properly caught up with everyone again!
Welcome back!!!!!!!!!!
You were certainly missed...and now I won't have to look at that Twinkie Torte every single day...

Welcome back! I hope you had a fantastic trip as it sounds you went EVERYWHERE, but I must say that it's SO good you've returned as I was missing your posts.
Natural southern cooks are the BEST. (Not that I'm biased or anything - but cheese grits and cathead biscuits? I hope you had the latter with sawmill gravy - mmm!

You're home! You're home! You're home! Doin' the happy dance...doin' the happy dance...(tappitta tappitta tappitta)
I cannot wait to hear your tales of Zingerman's -- in fact, I'll swap you a Valvona & Crolla tale for a Zingerman's tale. I love V&C so much that I wanted to move in, and in fact would have if Lloyd had not reminded me that such a move would be impractical. Grrrr.
We will catch up, no doubt! :)

thank goodness you are back.
there were times when I thought, maybe, you'd been attacked by a killer gang of Twinkies set for revenge!

Moira, welcome back! I wish someone can strap me to the chair to watch the cooking lessons on my dvd and computer, boring, boring! But I have to tough it out (sigh). Good to have you back...

Hello everyone and thanks for the warm welcome back! I'm still trying to get back in the swing of things, and we're introducing a kitty to the household this weekend, too, so I'm hoping to fit some cooking and baking in on Sunday. No Twinkies, I promise! ;-)
