I was born and raised in Massachusetts, but have no desire whatsoever to move back there, or anywhere else in New England.
I am ecstatically married, and our 12th anniversary is in October. My husband is the most wonderful person in the entire universe. Don't bother launching an argument in favour of someone that you know- even though I'll listen politely, nod, and smile, I just won't believe that it's possible.
We have two wonderful children, Duncan (4 1/2) and Lily (3 1/2). They are exactly eleven months apart. Yes, hardy har-har, we were very busy.
We are even busier now, but in a different way, natch. We've just moved back to the U.S. from England, and we will be moving to the mid-west U.S. in the near future. Yes, I said the mid-west. We have also lived in Hawaii and Colorado.
In fact, we met and married in Hawaii. We would love to move back there, but would need to win a lottery first. A lottery with a very large jackpot. We also dreamed for some time about moving to Orcas Island, Washington. This would also require an amount of money that does not seem readily attainable to us at this point in time.
I am passionate about photography, of all kinds, and take it very personally when my own work is critiqued. When someone says they like something that I've done, I'm chuffed, but don't really believe it. On the other hand, I feel quite crestfallen when someone gives me negative feedback. It's an illness, and I'm working on it.
Some random information, in case you were wondering...
1. Depending on where you look, 'moira' means either destiny or great. I don't mind either.
2. I hate raisins. I really can't overstate that fact.
3. I also cannot abide anything that tastes even mildly of liquorice. Include fennel and anisette in this category.
4. I am the tenth child in a family of ten children. My oldest sibling is twenty-two years older than I am.
5. I am right-handed. My father and six of my siblings are left-handed. My husband and daughter are left-handed also.
6. I am near-sighted and began to wear corrective lenses at age seven. I cannot see more than 6 inches in front of my face without help. It doesn't really bother me, though, and I do not want corrective surgery.
7. I don't have a cocktail very often, but when I do I like Southern Comfort. A 'Scarlett O'Hara' is Southern Comfort with cranberry juice and a wedge of lime, and it's really tasty.
8. I do not care for white wines. I do, however, like a glass of a Rioja or Shiraz.
9. I believe in moderation in all things, even moderation.
10. I do not have a favourite type of music. I like almost everything, although gangsta rap doesn't really speak to me. I'd have to say the same thing about "smooth jazz".
11. My favourite photographer is Henri Cartier-Bresson. I think that David LaChapelle is a hack.
12. One of my favourite words of all time is 'melee'. Another is 'obstreperous'.
13. I love horror movies, of all types. It would be impossible to name my personal favourite, but 'Pumkinhead' is right up there near the top.
14. I also like goofy comedies. While I despised 'Me, Myself & Irene', I love 'Dumb & Dumber' and 'Joe Dirt'.
15. I think that some movie directors are like politicians. They may start out with noble intentions, but the worm turns once they make it big. I think Robert Rodriguez falls into this category. I know that Jim Jarmusch does not.
16. I don't like food snobs, especially ones that belittle home cooking.
17. I used to work as a short-order cook in Massachusetts, where we employed the '10-second' rule in the kitchen.
18. I worked as a barrista in Hawaii, and my best friend used to spit into the espresso shakes of difficult customers. Lesson learned? Don't be a difficult customer.
18. I don't like Jello.
19. I like my barbeque sauce smokey and spicy, not sweet and tangy.
20. I have to say that my favourite food of all time is the humble potato, prepared any way. You just can't beat it.
